Climbing Trips and Photos

South West Schools Climbing Competition 2019:

On February 4th a number of our team represented Pate's at the South West Schools Climbing Competition held in The Climbing Academy and Undercover Rock, Bristol. All students competed under an Olympic format, with each climber attempting 20 boulders, 2 top ropes and 2 speed climbs each. They did exceptionally well with some fantastic climbing done by all who attended. We managed to place 3rd in the Junior Boys team event as well as 5th in the seniors boys, senior girls and junior girls events. Well done to all who participated, a great result for our first competition.

Summer Climbing and Surf Trip:

The club enjoyed its second Climbing  and Surfing Trip to Wales on a weekend at the beginning of June. On Saturday the students went to Barmouth Slabs for their first trip climbing outdoors with several 25 meter routes and an abseil. They then cooked dinner together and were treated to a great sunset accompanied by dolphins just off the shore. On Sunday they attended their first Surf lesson with Aber Adventures. Every student and staff member managed to stand up and a catch a wave into shore, having a great time. The photos from the trip are pictured below.

New Routes and Mats:

The wall was reset by Mr Peacey and Mr Bastian on the 8th and 9th of June. We now have 20 new routes from 3 to 6c using our new holds from Holdz, Euroholds and Padstar Holds.  We have also invested in new matting for the wall which folds directly onto it, protecting the wall (pictured below).

Several of our students ask how we actually change all the holds so Mr Bastian created a time lapse of the process (pictured right)
